Anything that gets your heart pumping and your blood flowing is going to do wonders for your mental health. If you are suffering from anxiety and/or stress, then one of the best things you can do right this very minute is get up and start moving. Even if it is just a walk around the block, you are going to reap the benefits in many ways.
Of course, the more you do, the better off you are going to be. There is nothing like consistency when it comes to exercising. While walking around the block is a good start, adopting a regular exercise regime is what will really make a difference in your life.
Regular exercise benefits you in two ways:
First, it releases endorphins in the brain during the routine that go a long way to making you feel good. This is something that you are going to feel right away during and after your exercise routine. This mood enhancing natural chemical can be triggered with as little as 10 minutes of aerobic activity. If you are feeling down in the dumps or anxious, hop on a treadmill or take a short walk or jog outside – you will feel the difference.
The second benefit to exercising is a little more long term, but something that is going to last a lot longer than a quick boost of brain endorphins. That benefit is the fact that you are going to start looking a lot better due to exercise. You are going to lose weight, gain muscle, develop a better posture and as a result, you are going to feel better about yourself. This could lead to a big decrease in depression and anxiety and an increase in self-esteem and confidence.
So, what are you waiting for? Start small and work your way up. Take an hour out of your television time today and go do something physical. Take a walk and see how you feel. I guarantee that you are going to feel a whole lot better.
